The UBL-Dev mail list is the long-established public forum for posting questions and discussing implementation and real-world use of the Universal Business Language. The Archives go back to December 2003. The OASIS Mail List Manager is where one administers the OASIS mail lists associated with an email address. The UBL.XML.org Editorial Board looks forward to your contributions to UBL-Dev.

UBL International Data Dictionary (IDD) contributions

This set of fora is reserved for volunteer contributions to the development of different language definitions of the UBL International Data Dictionary (IDD). In each forum a set of incomplete IDD spreadsheets is posted for a particular language. Volunteers contact the Editorial Board Chairman (see Editorial board for contact information) supplying their Google Docs account name (note that any a Google Docs account can be associated with any email address and does not require one to get a Google Mail address). Each volunteer is added to the spreadsheets and contributes what they can to the work.

IDD questions only

Per the Terms of Use volunteers warrant they have the rights to all content they contribute to XML.org, and they agree their submissions can be used.

Note that the translation process involves two steps for each UBL information item indexed by its unique Dictionary Entry Name:

  1. translate the English definition to a suitable definition in the new language, and
  2. choose appropriate business terms for the new definition in the new language.

Of note, one does not directly translate the English business terms to language-specific business terms. A language's business terms are derived from the language-specific definition, just as the English business terms are derived from the English definition.

This index forum is for general discussion of localization and all spreadsheets, not any particular single set of spreadsheets.

Master IDD Template (exemplar)

The following spreadsheets are the masters used to create a new empty IDD from scratch. These are posted as exemplars of the amount of work involved in populating an IDD for submission by a UBL Localization Committee for inclusion. Permission to modify these spreadsheets will not be granted, only permission to contribute to the spreadsheets for a particular language's entry to the UBL IDD.
