KAT, also known as Kickass Torrents, was a tremendously well-known peer-to-peer file sharing network that was forced to shut down in 2016. Since then, it has been difficult to locate a Kickass proxy that lasts for longer than a few months. Although downloading torrent files is not unlawful in and of itself, the US government's decision to take the domain was based on the vast number of copyright-protected files that were being shared on the website. The site was hijacked since most music, movies, television shows, and, let's face it, copyrighted under US law.
